A MOTORCYCLIST is critically ill in hospital after suffering serious head injuries in a crash in Seaham.
The 17-year-old rider of the motorcycle left the carriageway and colllided with a brick wall in Princess Road, in Dawdon, at lunchtime, on Thursday.
He was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, for treatment, where his injuries are described as life-threatening.
The crash happened as the 125cc motorcycle was heading south along Princess Road at approximately 12.40pm.
The North East Ambulance Service dispatched and double-crewed ambulance to the scene.
Police investigating the crash are appealing for witnesses to come forward and in particular anyone who has dashcam footage.
Anyone with information is asked to call PC Steve Adey at Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 150 of March 5.
