A GROUP of women have raised around £47,000 for a holistic care centre in Teeside.

Three "amazing women" - Jan Marron, June Ward and Jean McDonald - have raised thousands of pounds for The Trinity Holistic Centre, at the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, through ad-hoc fundraising efforts.

The trio, referred to as 'the three Js' in the centre, hit £47,000 last month, an accumulation of sales from knitted baby clothes and toys, sewing, and book since they started volunteering eight years ago.

Ms McDonald said: "It’s wonderful that we have raised so much money. We have loved every minute of what we do."

Money raised has gone towards furniture, crockery, towels, acupuncture needles, a computer desk and "all sorts of vital equipment", including electric therapy beds that cost thousands.

The qualified therapists, who are also employed by the centre, are on the hunt for new volunteers as Ms Marron steps back for more family time.

A spokesperson for the centre said: "The three J’s have been instrumental in raising the profile of the centre. They do a stall every so often but we need big and varied events."

Ms McDonald added: “The years are zipping by, and understandably, Jan has wanted to spend a little more time on other commitments so we really do need extra pairs of hands and help.”
