THE emergency services have confirmed a body has been found in Geneva Woods in Darlington.
At around 8.20am on Sunday (February 2), police including the North East Ambulance Service and fire service were seen at the Parkside entrance of the nature reserve.
A witness told The Northern Echo that the emergency services were on the scene several hours after they heard a police helicopter flying above the area.
At the scene, a police cordon has been erected blocking access to a walk within Geneva Woods.
Later this morning, Durham Police confirmed that a body had been found within Geneva Woods and a CID investigation had been launched.
'Non-suspicious'
Formal identification is yet to take place, but police say they are not treating the death as suspicious.
A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 8.20am to a patient in Geneva Woods in Darlington where we dispatched two double-crewed ambulances to the scene."
The ambulance service said they were not in a position to release further information.
County Durham & Darlington Fire and Rescue has been contacted.
