A TECHNOLOGY firm has announced plans to work abroad following a successful subsea deal.
Tekmar Energy – based in Newton Aycliffe – has been selected by power cable provider JDR Cables, part of TFKable Group, to make a protective coating for undersea cables for a Taiwan windfarm.
The Formosa 1 Phase 2 windfarm is a project located 6km from the shore of Taiwan, consisting of 20 turbines.
Tekmar Energy will be providing about 60 cable protection systems and a further 60 hang off clamps which hold the subsea cable in place within the turbine transition piece.
Tekmar Energy managing director Russell Edmondson said: “We are delighted for Tekmar to be selected as the cable protection system and hang off supplier for Formosa 1 Phase 2.
“This continues Tekmar’s relationship with JDR Cables and furthers our position as the world market leader in offshore wind cable protection systems.”
The deal follows the success of Tekmar Energy after being selected to make a protective coating from Formosa 1 Phase 1 wind project.
Tekmar Energy, which employs 115 people, will use its state of the art manufacturing facility in Newton Aycliffe to produce the cable protection systems.
The project will mark the business's 67th deal within the industry, retaining Tekmar Energy's record of having worked on more offshore wind projects than any other company worldwide.
JDR Cables projects director Paul Marsh said: “Cable protection systems are vital for protecting the subsea cables of offshore wind farm projects.
"We have worked with Tekmar for many years and Formosa 1 Phase 2 builds on our trusted relationship on this exciting project.”
The JDR team work with many of the world's major energy companies and subsea service providers operating in oil and gas and renewable energy markets across the world.
The business has delivered several high profile projects for their global customer base and worked closely with its customers to solve complex technological challenges in the windfarm industry.
As part of the project, Tekmar Energy will be supplying their TekLink® cable protection system for all inter array and export cables.
Tekmar Energy is one of Tekmar Group PLC's four primary operating companies, in addition to Subsea Innovation, AgileTek Engineering and Ryder Geotechnical.
Tekmar Group’s vision is to be the partner of choice for the supply and installation support of subsea protection equipment to the global offshore energy markets.
