POLICE have reassured members of the public a "suspicious package" found in a town centre is a false alarm.
North Yorkshire Police cordoned off Brompton Road in Northallerton between the roundabout junction with Friarage Street and Asda supermarket.
Emergency services were first called to the incident on Tuesday lunchtime, however after a full inspection, police officers re-opened the road to traffic and pedestrians.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Following the report of a suspicious package at an address in Brompton Road, Northallerton earlier this afternoon, we can now confirm that this was a false alarm.
"Brompton Road reopened at just after 2pm and everything is now back to normal.
"We would like to thank road users and local residents for their patience."
