POLICE have recovered 40kg of drugs when they pulled over a car on the A19.
Cleveland Police said that a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply controlled drugs. Officers have recovered 20 kilos of suspected Class A drugs and 20 kilos of suspected Class B drugs.
Officers from our Community Drug Enforcement Team (CDET) working with roads policing officers from Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit (CDSOU) pulled over the silver Chrysler Grand Voyager just after 11am on Thursday.
DC Ben Chisholm said: “This is a significant find of suspected drugs, certainly among the largest discoveries we’ve had from a single stop in Cleveland.
“The drugs need to be forensically tested but we suspect we have recovered a large quantity of both Class A and Class B drugs. We’re committed to disrupting the supply of drugs to this area.”
Acting Sergeant Lee Clarke from CDSOU C Relief said: “This was a fast paced incident which involved traffic police and colleagues in the dog unit.
“After observing the driver we were able to conduct a stop and search of the vehicle which led to an arrest and recovery of a significant amount of suspected drugs.”
