A POLICE officer was seriously injured and filmed by the public after responding to a call.

Officers from Cleveland Police were called to a dispute in South Bank, Middlesbrough, on Wednesday June 26.

It was reported that a man had stolen a bike from the garden of a property resulting a dispute between the man and the victim.

Police attended the scene but the man had reportedly left before their arrival.

The man was pursued, however, and one officer suffered a dislocated shoulder during the arrest attempt.

It is believed people were also throwing items at officers while they dealt with the arrest.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "During the arrest, one of our officers suffered an extremely painful injury and it was reported to us that members of the public proceeded to film our officer in pain.

"Our officers work extremely hard and should not expect to be treated this way when carrying out their duties.

"The Force will not tolerate this type of unacceptable behavior directed at our officers, staff or volunteers and anyone caught doing so will be dealt with appropriately."

A 27-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl were arrested in connection with the incident and they remain in custody.
