A PEDESTRIAN was seriously injured after she was struck by a light goods vehicle.
She was was taken to hospital after the incident on the A182, east of South Hetton, in the early hours of Wednesday.
Emergency services were called and the woman was taken for medical treatment.
A spokesman for Durham Constabulary, which is investigating, said: “Officers are particular keen to hear from a couple seen walking along the side of the road at the time of the incident, at approximately 1.50am. Anyone with Dash Cam footage is also urged to get in touch.
“The female pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.”
Witnesses are asked to call police on 101.
