A MASKED knifeman snatched about £1,000 in cash from a North-East bookmakers today.
The robber, wearing a black ski mask, walked into Corals the bookmakers in Clifford Road, Stanley, at about 9.30am.
A woman aged 40 who was on duty was threatened with a knife with a six inch slightly curved blade.
Money, in notes of varying denominations, was taken from the safe and the raider fled the premises and turned right as he left the shop towards the town centre.
Police investigating are studying CCTV footage for clues.
The female member of staff was shocked but unhurt.
The robber is thought to be local and is described as 5ft 5ins, of proportionate build, wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit bottoms and light-coloured hooded top.
Sergeant Phil Atess, of Stanley Police, said: "I believe there would have been people in the area immediately before or after the raid.
"I would urge anyone with information to get in touch on the force's non emergency number."
