A WOMAN has suffered serious facial injuries after being attacked by a Japanese Akita dog.

The victim, who is in her 30s, also suffered chest injuries as a result of the attack near the park area between Trunk Road and North Ormesby in Middlesbrough, yesterday, at 8.45am.

Cleveland Police believe the dog was being walked by two men at the time of the attack who are described as being in their late teens.

One of the men had dark hair and was wearing a dark tracksuit and the other man was wearing a light tracksuit.

Both men left with the dog prior to police arrival.

Detective Constable Andy Micklewright said: “This was a horrific and unprovoked attack where the victim has sustained serious injuries.

“We would like to appeal for the two men who were with the dog to please come forward as they may be able to assist police with enquiries.

“I would also like to appeal to the male member of the public who assisted the victim and helped her during the attack as he could provide essential evidence for the investigation.

“Officers are currently patrolling the area and carrying out a number of enquiries in a bid to trace the dog and the two men.”
