A JOINT celebration of the work of coal trains during the North-East industrial heyday takes place at two railway attractions, on Sunday.
The Tanfield Steam Railway, near Stanley, and the Bowes Railway, at Springwell Village, between Washington and Gateshead, are recreating the atmosphere of a colliery yard in the Fifties and Sixties.
A demonstration coal train will operate at each location, together with normal passenger rail services. In addition, a coal wagon will be shunting and an old fire engine running on the Bowes site.
Visitors to either site can receive a discount at the other.
More details on 0191-388-7545, for Tanfield Railway, and on 0191-416-1847, for the Bowes site.
