CROOK LIBRARY

ARE other residents as incensed as I am at the situation at Crook library during the early evening?

I am referring to the antics of teenage yobs who go there for the specific purpose of creating a nuisance - antics that include being abusive to library staff, horseplay both verbal and physical, and the use of foul language.

This is a disgraceful situation that should never have been tolerated. Crook police office is not 200 metres from the library and there is nothing to stop officers regularly visiting the library during the relevant times and removing trouble-makers.

The ladies who staff Crook library are the essence of courtesy and refinement and professionalism of the highest quality. They should not have to put up with this abuse. No one should, and it is long overdue for something to be done about it. _ Tony Kelly, Crook.

FERRYHILL

TOMMY Garrett's letter on behalf of the Ferryhill FAIR Party (HAS, Sept 27) was extremely distasteful.

I have been a regular attendee at the Annual Remembrance Sunday Parade in Ferryhill for over 25 years. During this time the town councillors (all Labour) and executive office have been fantastic, especially over the past ten years. The level of support given by the Town Council is a credit to it. In all weathers they got the job done.

Last year I noticed Mr Garrett at the parade for the first time. He arrived without following any of the protocols with a wreath and joined the parade. By coincidence he was standing to be a Fair town councilor shortly afterwards. An ex-serviceman, name and address supplied.
