CATERING tutors came up with a wild design for a wedding cake-with-a-difference earlier this month.
Staff at Darlington College put together the cake, featuring scenes from the jungle and the African plain, and including icing sugar giraffes, elephants, lions, tigers, cheetahs, warthogs and wildebeest.
The cake was commissioned by Adrian and Louise Gossage, who married on the beaches of Kenya before going on safari for a week.
To celebrate their adventure they wanted an unusual cake for the reception in their home town of Richmond, North Yorkshire.
Mr Gossage's father, Mick, is site manager at the college and told his son about the talented staff in the catering department.
Catering tutor Jennifer Craig said: "I also used to do oil paintings so it was really enjoyable doing the African scenes."
Her colleague Donna Joyce added: "It was also a great opportunity to demonstrate to our record intake of NVQ L3 patisseries students just what can be created using cake icing techniques."
The finished product drew admiring glances at the couple's official wedding reception, held at Richmond Cricket Club last week.
