AN annual oyster festival has raised thousands of pounds for a North-East hospice.
The fourth North-East Oyster Festival raised £15,000 for St Teresa's Hospice, Darlington.
The event, which was held at Hardwick Hall, Sedgefield, County Durham, involved more than 1,900 business people from the North-East.
Entertainment was provided by Irish bands The Tony Corcoran Ceilidh Band, Dublin Raiders and Teesside-based The Wild Cats of Kilkenny.
Comedian Al Murray, the pub landlord, also entertained guests and joined in the music by playing the bongos.
St Teresa's Hospice also ran a tombola and prize draw.
Jane Bradshaw, hospice director, said: "We were delighted to be selected as the sole beneficiary of this event.
"We worked very closely with the helpful staff from Hardwick Hall and would like to thank all those who participated in our fundraising."
Dawn Coates, Event Coordinator, said: "Hardwick Hall management and staff would like to thank St Teresa's Hospice for the professionalism and organisation shown on such a busy and eventful day.
"'We would also like to thank all guests for giving so generously to such a worthwhile cause and would like to acknowledge the sponsors of the event, Newcastle Breweries, Rowlands Chartered Accountants, Pagdenham Pratt and Hodgson's Fish."
