Let's start with some honesty; I was a bit optimistic about this concert. I mean, don't get me wrong, I was still excited but wasn't expecting anything spectacular. How wrong I was! The night was fantastic! And yeah, I was (still am) a busted fan as well "just shoot me down now!" so as I was walking round to the venues front door imagine my pure excitement when I actually walked straight passed Fightstar just stood at the back having a cigarette. After calming down from the initial shock, I went back to talk to them. They signed my CD and as I cried out "where do you want me?" for the photograph, when Charlie replied "come over here" with his arms outstretched well, it would have been rude not to! They were all so friendly and generally wanted to talk to me and my friends. Plus it needs to be said; Charlie is officially the best hugger in the world!

When we finally got in and ready for the show, we had 3 supporting bands to see before Fightstar even made an appearance. First up were 'You Me At Six' they were ok, not sure whether they fitted in with the genre of music, they had more of a poppy/emo style going on. Still, they were good and what is more, they had spectacular hair! Emanuel were next, not too sure about this band. When they first came on they reminded me of Thursday'. They weren't terrible, but nothing to write home about. The third supporting band however was brilliant! They are called The Sleeping' a new and up coming band from New York. Their set began with Salvatore Mignano on bass diving into the unexpected crowd! This was a decent well built bloke! And as I was stood in the second from the front row, it resulted with his ass being right in my face! But their music was fast, energetic and perfect for warming up the crowd. They had so much energy and it lasted their entire set which set us all up for the main show. Defiantly go check out the sleeping if you like your music to be hardcore!

Finally Fightstar entered the small stage with Charlie looking really hot if I may say so myself! He was wearing tight-ish black trousers, a black shirt which was slightly too small which was really cute. Finished off with a smart black tienice! His hair was awesome and he was looking lush, once that was established it was time for them to start their set! It felt like they were hardly on stage, it went so fast. They played a total of 14 songs, nine from their old album, Grand Unification' and five from their most recent album, One Day Son, This Will All Be Yours'. It was a perfect combination of sing-a-long' songs including Paint your Target' and Grand Unification 1' which were fast and furious, causing a few bruises along the way. But also slowing it down with Mono' which was an amazing song to hear live. The only hitch was Charlie's guitar not being tuned correctly, making them stop half way through a song and begin again! This is forgivable as this was their first tour date though! Apart from that, the night ran smoothly even though it went way too fast!

As we were leaving, the supporting bands were selling their own merchandise and as I stopped to purchase The Sleeping's' album, they were talking to their fans and were really appreciate of their warm welcome in England. It was clear they were nervous of being and performing for the first time in England and were unsure on how they would be perceived. But they were really nice funny guys with the guitarist Cameron Keym proudly claiming how they always drink the Newcastle Brown Ale in New York and when I suggested they should check out the brewery in Gateshead, it was funny to watch his shear excitement of the thought of visiting the brewery. Also, Salvator Mignano apologised for his ass being in my face! (But it was alright, I loved every second of it really!) That night I left the venue with my Fightstar CD and The Sleeping CD signed, my photograph with Charlie Simpson, Charlie's bottle of water (which was full thank god, I needed a drink!!) and Dan's (from Fightstar) plectrum and a huge smile on my face! It is a shame that more people won't give Fightstar a chance just because of Charlie's history. Please just check them out at some time, their music is not half bad and just go and see them in concert, their venues are tiny, it is a really good night out!! It is certainly a night I am not going to forget in a hurry!
