AN American national has been charged with careless driving in connection with an accident in which a motorcyclist died.
Alan Saxton, 48, appeared at Scarborough Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.
The case was adjourned while further investigations are carried out by police.
Mr Saxton was arrested following a collision between the silver Peugeot 307 he was driving and a Yamaha motorbike on the B1257 at the junction for Rievaulx Abbey, near Helmsley, North Yorkshire, at 5pm on Thursday.
The rider of the bike, Stuart Robert Goodwin, 41, of Peterlee, County Durham, died from his injuries.
Witnesses are asked to call Scarborough road policing group on 0845-6060247.
