Sarah Borwell, originally of Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough led her East Gloucester team to take the prestigious National Club League title.
The National Division One Final took place at the West Hants Club in Bournemouth, September 7 - 9 and was the completion of the annual Spring / Summer team competition.
Sarah was top seed for East Gloucester and showed great confidence and leadership to assist her fellow teammates claim to be the best club in the Country! The team included Olivia Scarfi (South Wales), Chloe Carlotti (Gloucester) and Pippa Reakes (Avon).
Six matches are scheduled in each tie. This includes four singles and two doubles. However if a team wins four singles matches the remaining doubles are not played. East Gloucester won all their ties in convincing style and the results are highlighted below, Friday September 7. Beat University of Bath 4-0. Saturday September 8. Beat David Lloyd Raynes Park 4-1. Sunday September 9. Beat Esporta Croydon 4-0.
Sarah now travels to India Tuesday September 12 to compete in a number of WTA events, which will be followed by tournaments in South Korea, Japan, Thailand. She will then head down under to compete in six $25,000 events in Australia.
Borwell highlighted her joy at the result, "East Gloucester were reigning Champions and to take the helm this year was a huge honour. The girl's did fantastic and our strength throughout the team proved to be instrumental in our victory. I took the National Junior League title back in 1993 and 1994 respectively with Tennis World and the competition remains to be a prestigious annual event throughout the age groups! I am feeling so positive going into my next six months of events around the world and am going to enjoy my tennis!"
