A RACECOURSE is opening its doors to the public for a family fun day next weekend.

Sedgefield Racecourse is holding activities throughout the day for people of all ages on Saturday, October 13.

The day starts at 10am with a Walk for Rhema, where staff from the Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Trust will complete a sponsored walk around the racecourse ambulance track with families and friends, to raise funds for Rhema Junior School in Uganda.

The school has been supported by Dr Angus Bell, a trust consultant psychiatrist, for a number of years, but the school still needs £25,000 to complete building work and ensure its 200 students are provided with uniforms, twice daily meal and medical care.

Other activities on offer include craft and market stalls, fairground attractions and a bouncy castle. Aidensfield and Ashfordly buses from ITV1's Heartbeat series will also visit on the day.

The event lasts until 4pm. Refreshments and food will be on sale and the bar will be open.
