A PRIMARY school has become one of only two schools in the country to win a national award.
South Pelaw CE Controlled Primary School, at Hilda Park, Chester-le-Street, has been given an Impetus Award by the London-based Institute of Global Ethics.
The school was chosen for its anti-bullying work and pupils had to go to the headquarters of the Magic Circle to give a presentation.
Headteacher Dorothy Hales said the project linked with one of the rights of children promoted by Unicef, the right to a voice and the right for what they say to be acted on, and was one of only eight award-winners.
She said: "It is an award for children making a difference. The ethos in the school is wonderful because they are the ones that make it.''
