A FORMER cancer sufferer raised £1,000 to help Cancer Research by running the Great North Run.
Maureen Worley, 55, of Thirsk, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2000 and battled the illness with help from staff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Gateshead.
Mrs Worley, of St Mary's Walk, was given the all-clear last year and decided to help the cancer charity.
She took up running last year and joined Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers.
Her ultimate goal was to run the Great North Run and she achieved it this year in two hours 50 minutes.
She said: "I'm really pleased with the time as I have never run that far before. It was fantastic.
"I always thought it would be marvellous to run something like the Great North Run and it was my dream to do it.
"The last mile was hard and I had to keep telling myself to keep going as I wanted to run all the way."
Anyone who would like to support Mrs Worley's fundraising work is asked to contact her on 01845-523511.
