A TOWN centre pub will be allowed to stay open until 3.30am, providing it complies with conditions governing noise and disturbance.
Neighbours of The Fleece, in Victoria Road, Richmond, objected to the extended hours, but Richmondshire District Council's licensing sub-committee approved the application.
Objectors say that late-night drinkers cause noise, rubbish and criminal damage in the area and have also hurled abuse at passers-by.
Committee chairman, Councillor Rob Johnson, said: "Whilst we have agreed extensions, there are a large number of conditions over and above those that already apply. They will be available once the report has been completed."
The committee decided that the pub will be able to open an extra two hours, until 3.30am, on Fridays, Saturdays, Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and bank holiday Mondays.
Police objected to the application and said that better arrangements for smokers were needed at the front door, where officers say clashes occur with people queuing to get into the pub. Police also want to see additional doormen in place.
