POLICE have renewed an appeal for witnesses who may have seen a gang attack on a father-of-three early on Sunday.
Eddie Harrop, 26, was waiting for a taxi in Bondgate, Darlington, at 2.30am, when he was approached by two men.
The pair then punched and kicked Mr Harrop to the ground. The former soldier suffered a black eye and bruising to the brain.
PC Gareth Hopps, of Darlington police, said: "We asked people at the scene after the incident, but some were reluctant to get involved at the time.
"We're hoping they may have had second thoughts by now and would be willing to speak.
"Mr Harrop was just waiting for a taxi when he was confronted by a number of men who were looking for a fight.
"They set upon him and punched and kicked him onto the ground, then continued to kick him.
"He now has cuts to the face and he has had a brain scan, which showed he has some bruising to the brain.
"If anybody saw this incident, we would appreciate it if they could get in touch."
Anyone with information is asked to call Police on 0845-60-60-365.
