WORK has begun on a £20,000 improvement scheme in ancient woodland.
The work, at Rosecroft Lane, in Loftus, will improve access and replace a number of footbridges across streams and springs. A stone surface will also be laid on the main path.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council said part of the footpath would be closed for safety reasons during the work.
Councillor Mark Hannon, cabinet member with responsibility for rural affairs, said: "We anticipate the work will take up to two weeks to complete, so we would appreciate the co-operation of footpath users during this time."
To celebrate the completion of the work, the council is organising a series of free guided walks.
