A PHILOSOPHY student from North Yorkshire has been awarded a scholarship by the University of Dundee.
Catherine Wann, 19, of Sycamore Avenue, Richmond, says the grant has allowed her to concentrate on her studies without having to work part-time to fund them.
The £1,000 award was based on academic potential and is available to students who have accepted a place on a three-year honours degree.
Miss Wann said: "The Chancellor's Scholarship has helped me greatly in that it has meant I have had enough money to get me through the academic year without having to worry about getting a part-time job. This has in turn allowed me to focus entirely on my studies."
Vice-principal Professor James Calderhead said: "The costs of studying at university can be quite a burden on students and scholarships are a way of easing that burden.
"The Chancellor's Scholarships are highly competitive and students apply for them from all over the UK. All of the students receiving the awards have demonstrated outstanding achievement."
