A HUSBAND and wife team have raised more than £400 for Macmillan Cancer Support by completing the Great North Run.
Denise and Alan Smith, from Durham City, took part in Sunday's half marathon, as part of the 1,000-strong Team Macmillan.
Mrs Smith, a 60-year-old teacher, completed the course in two hours and 35 minutes. She said: "I loved every minute of it. The atmosphere was brilliant and the crowds along the course were so encouraging, which helped.
"I chose to run for Macmillan Cancer Support because I know how much help they give to people affected by cancer, from the nurses and medical staff to the support and advice.
"My sister and my father had a Macmillan nurse, so I know first-hand how important the charity's work is."
Mr Smith, a 61-year-old solicitor, who has himself survived skin cancer, finished in one hour and 49 minutes.
