A MAN has been jailed for two years for sexually assaulting a young woman.
Majid Safabakhsh invited his victim to his home for a meal in June 2016 on the pretence that others would also be attending.
However, when the woman arrived, she found herself to be the only other person present at the house where Safabakhsh sexually assaulted her, causing her to flee from the address.
Safabakhsh, of Pinewood Close, Darlington, pleaded not guilty to one count of sexual assault but was found guilty following a four-day trial at Teesside Crown Court.
The 50-year-old returned to court for sentencing on December 20 where he was jailed for two years.
Detective Constable Liam Robertson, of Darlington CID, said: “This case has taken a significant amount of time to get to court and ultimately to trial, but I am pleased that members of the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict.
“I hope his victim is able to move on with her life now that Safabakhsh is off the streets and behind bars.”
