OLDER residents are being invited to a series of events designed to give them a greater say in the running of services they use.

More than 100 people have been invited to meet representatives from local councils, NHS trusts and voluntary organisations at Ramside Hall, in Durham City, today.

The event, called All Our Tomorrows, will give people the chance to comment on services including home care, meals on wheels, residential or nursing care, transport and leisure.

Representatives from Durham County Council, the county's seven district councils, voluntary organisations and local NHS trusts will be at the event.

Councillor Edna Hunter, chairwoman of the county council, said: "This is the third time we and our partner organisations have hosted this kind of event and we are looking forward to hearing from the older people.

"We all want to make sure that the services provided for older people meet their needs in an effective and dignified way.

"It is very important that organisations take into account the views of those that use them."

Three smaller events will also take place throughout the week, which older residents are welcome to attend.

They are taking place at Sherburn Village Community Centre, today, from 1pm to 4pm; Bishop Auckland Methodist Church Hall, tomorrow, between 10am and 2.30pm and at Barnard Castle Methodist Church Hall, on Friday, between 9am and noon.
