A SPENNYMOOR community centre has thrown open its doors on Christmas Day to welcome people who would otherwise be spending the day alone.
Thirty-two people from the local community are spending Christmas Day at the St Paul’s Centre’s Whistling Teapot Café to enjoy a traditional lunch with all the trimmings, festive games and fellowship.
Angela Taylor, co-manager of the Centre’s Whistling Teapot Café said: “Loneliness doesn’t just affect older people, so we wanted to encourage people of all ages who would be spending the day alone to spend it with us.”
The lunch has been provided free of charge thanks to part-funding from ASDA Spennymoor and volunteers from the St Paul’s Centre have been preparing the food since Christmas Eve.
