HUNDREDS of properties have been affected by powercut in the Cockfield area of Teesdale this morning.

A spokesperson for Northern Powergrid said engineers were working to restore power to all the homes and businesses.

She said: "We still have 407 customers without power in the Cockfield area. We received a report at 10.16 this morning.

"It was initially affecting 771 customers. We got 364 customers back on at 11.32am.

"We need to do an overhead cable repair. Engineers are currently on-site and we estimated the power to be back on by 4pm.

The spokesperson said there were also problems with power to properties in Thornaby, Stockton.

She added: "We were first made aware of the problems there at 10.22am. It is affecting about 20 customers. We need to do an underground cable repair. The engineers on site. We estimated power to be restored by 6pm this evening.
