A UNIVERSITY college is being relocated to a new venue for a year.
Durham University’s John Snow College, will be based in North Road, Durham next year before moving again to a permanent home.
The university has announced plans for the college to take over Unite Student’s Rushford Court, which opened in September on the site of the former County Hospital, on a one-year lease.
John Snow, which moved from the university’s Stockton campus this year, is having a new college built at Mount Oswald, South Road, which is due to be completed in 2020.
Pro-vice chancellor Owen Adams said: “Rushford Court will offer the full Durham collegiate experience, combining opportunities for intellectual and personal development with pastoral and welfare support in a thriving, mixed community.
“We are committed to working with our neighbours and partners in Durham, and hope that having a college in this central location will bring benefits for both the university and city.”
Moray Notman, university engagement director for Unite Students, said: “We are really proud to be building on our partnership with Durham University to provide a home for success, for students studying at John Snow College. We look forward to welcoming them, and their university staff who will have offices at Rushford Court, in September 2019.”
