YOUNG riders and staff at an equestrian centre were in tears after their mascot dog went missing.
Middleton Riding Centre has lost its three-year pug cross, which is a favourite of youngsters at the school.
Staff at the school think the dog is lost after it ran out of the centre, which is between Sadberge and Middleton St George, to the east of Darlington, to chase rabbits.
Trainer and club chairman Janet Valks said she hoped someone had picked it up and taken it in to look after the dog.
Ms Valks added: "He looks like a monkey. He is absolutely adorable.
"We have lots of competitions here and he has been photographed and on our website. He is something of a mascot.
"He is sadly missed by all the children.
"We are all absolutely devastated. We can't do anything for crying. We keep looking for him to come cantering back across the car park."
It is the second time the dog, which is red-brown and has a red collar with the riding centres contact details on, has gone missing this year.
Two months ago it was found in Brafferton, a nearby village, after it had been chasing rabbits.
The animal was found and taken to police, before being returned to the school.
Ms Valks has also put up a reward for the pug's safe return. Anyone who has seen the dog or knows where he is should contact Middleton Riding Centre on 01325-333600.
