A THEATRE coffee shop has a new name and logo thanks to two ten-year-olds who won a design competition.
The Georgian Theatre Royal, in Richmond, asked local school children to come up with a new identity for its second floor coffee bar, and the contest attracted 55 entries.
Theatre trustees chose David Pauli as one winner after he suggested that the cafe should be called Butler's, after actor-manager Samuel Butler, who founded the venue in 1788.
Marina Kicielowska designed the winning logo, which now features alongside the name on window blinds.
David, a pupil at Crakehall CE Primary School, near Bedale, and Marina, who attends St Peter and St Paul RC Primary School, in Leyburn, won family tickets to a show.
They were also given a VIP tour of the theatre after the relaunch of the coffee shop.
Theatre manager Vaughn Curtis said: "It has been great to have the involvement of local schools with our coffee shop relaunch. Over the coming weeks, we are pleased to exhibit artwork by all the coffee shop competition entrants."
Bev Joicey, who represented the trustees at the relaunch, said: "This theatre is very important, virtually the oldest theatre in the country, and David and Marina have made a significant contribution to it."
