Mountaineer Alan Hinkes was the guest at the 20th annual awards presentation of the Hambleton and Richmondshire Area Schools Sports Association.

Awards were presented to students who have represented North Yorkshire during the 2006-7 season.

Two adults were also honoured for their work.

The Yorkshire Cricket Board award for outstanding service went to former teacher Adrian Grayson, of Bedale, who has organised, coached and managed schools cricket teams in North Yorkshire since 1964.

Mr Hinkes, from Northallerton, also presented a pair of engraved whisky glasses to another former teacher, Eddie Roberts, who has been involved in North Yorkshire schools football for many years.

The Donaldson Trophy, named after a former member of North Yorkshire County Council education committee, was awarded to young footballer James Bell, of Northallerton College.
