SIX Middlesbrough councillors will be facing eviction in a week's time, when local young people pass judgement on them.
The six are taking part in I'm a Councillor, Get Me Out of Here, an event based on the TV jungle elimination show, starting during Local Democracy Week.
Young people will be quizzing the councillors - Ron Lowes, Jeanette Walker, John McPartland, Jan Brunton, Paul Thompson and Peter Purvis - over the internet on their role and key issues affecting young people in the town.
Anyone failing to impress will be evicted - but not made to eat anything unsavoury.
Each day, young people will get the chance to question them and vote for the one they like most.
Any who fail to impress will be evicted from the website, while the winning councillor will be named the I'm A Councillor... young persons' champion'.
The week-long event, which starts next Monday, aims to help young people learn more about their councillors and feel involved in their communities.
Councillor Thompson, who was last year's winner, said: "The event puts young people in the driving seat by letting them choose the topics we have to answer questions on. It puts councillors on the spot - which is a good thing - and hopefully helps young people find out a bit more about how the council works."
The event is supported by teaching materials for schools and launches the second year of the council's "Local Democracy Week ... and beyond" initiative which will run until next May.
