RESIDENTS of Chilton shared memories and images of their community through the years at an art and heritage event at the weekend.
The workshop, on Saturday, was part of the Chilton in Time project, which is looking at key events and people in the area's history.
It aims to bring residents together to create a timeline that will feature in a piece of public art, which will installed in the town centre next spring.
Artist Simon Watkinson is creating the three light sculptures, which are each made of three sections.
The bottom will represent heavy machinery drilling into a coal seam, the middle will be a timeline and the top will light up as a beacon to the community.
Working with artist and historian Kay Henderson, residents collated their history knowledge and stories of people and events for use in the timeline. Katie Banner, arts development officer at Sedgefield Borough Council, said: "We can find recorded facts about local history but it is people's stories about characters and events that give a place its identity and will help bring this piece to life."
