HUSBAND and wife team Billy and Sheila Wilthew scored a notable double at their village leek show at the weekend.
Mr Wilthew, a former cement worker, came first in the 31st show to be held at Frosterley Village Hall, in Weardale, with a pair of leeks measuring 222.1 cubic inches. He also won best in show and a prize for the best pair of leeks.
Mrs Wilthew came second in show with leeks at 205.2 cubic inches and won the prize for the best intermediate leek.
Third in show was local builder David Nelson, with leeks at 135.7 cubic inches.
Other prize winners were: Most points in vegetable classes, Bill Currah, Frosterley; most points in flowers, Steve Hodgson, Fir Tree; and best baker, Linda Nelson, Frosterley.
