PUPILS have been taking part in their own version of Ready Steady Cook.
Every afternoon this week, children at Witton Gilbert Primary School, in Witton Gilbert, near Durham, were invited with their families to take part in the event with the school catering contractors.
Five cooking stations were set up, making different meals and desserts.
Headteacher Judith Hodgson said: "Children loved spotting the ingredients, reading recipes and cooking and inventing new names for the tasty Mexican-style wraps, jambalaya, and meat and dumplings, to name but a few.
"Sweet treats included chocolate orange fudge surprise, ginger biscuits and a very sticky sultana pudding.
"The children surprised some parents by devouring every mouthful - things they'd thought they'd never try."
Running alongside this event was an international food week run by catering contractors Scholarest, where dishes from different countries featured daily and chef Dave Riley ran taster sessions
