A MOTHER who was found on fire outside of her home has died, police have confirmed.
The 35-year-old was discovered in flames outside of her home on Middlesbrough’s Acklam Road at around 12.40pm.
The emergency services quickly responded and she was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary where she died on Saturday of her injuries.
On Tuesday, witnesses reported seeing residents rushing to the aid of the stricken woman, believed to be a mother of two young children.
Neighbours had been alerted by a man smashing a window belonging to a neighbouring property in a frantic attempt to attract attention.
Several people tried to help, with some tackling flames inside the woman’s house and one man wrapping her in cling-film.
One witnesses said: “It was horrendous, I’ve never seen anything like it.
“Her clothing had come away and people were trying to put her out and cool her burns.”
A man was also taken to hospital with severe burns to his hands following the incident. He is believed to be receiving treatment.
A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “A 35-year-old woman who was being treated in the RVI Hospital in Newcastle for burn injuries sadly died on Saturday, November 17.
“The woman sustained the injuries following an incident on Acklam Road in Middlesbrough on Tuesday, November 13.
“Enquiries are still ongoing however officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time.
“Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
