A SUPERMARKET is to re-open next week after changing hands.
The former Co-op store, in Annfield Plain, near Stanley, has been taken over by Tesco.
All 45 Co-op staff have transferred to their new employer, and another 160 jobs have been created at the 23,000sq ft store, in Station Road.
Linda Dodds and Dianne Johnson, who have each worked at the store for more than 30 years, have been chosen to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony on Monday.
Members of Annfield Plain Community Association will also be at the ceremony, where they will be presented with £1,000 from the Tesco Charity Trust.
The centre, which was chosen by members of staff, provides a range of activities including a women's club, mother and toddler groups and craft classes.
Treasurer Doreen Welch said: "Over the years, we have spent a considerable amount of money updating and improving our facilities and the cash will be spent on the running costs of the centre."
Store manager Helen Harber said: "It was a unanimous decision by the staff at Tesco that this important community service was supported."
The store will open from 8am to 10pm, on Mondays, from 6am to 10pm, from Tuesday to Saturday, and from 10am to 4pm, on Sundays.
