This cabernet sauvignon is a typical full-bodied varietal.
It has a lovely deep garnet colour with a cassis and blackcurrant bouquet.
This is a very tasty wine full of ripe red berry fruit complemented by soft tannins.
It's 14 per cent alcohol, which although high does make for good drinking on its own.
The well integrated oak and long balanced finish also makes it a good match for the stronger meat and game dishes.
Wyndham is one of my favourite Australian wine companies. It's been going since 1828 and makes a range of wines with "Bin and three figures" labels. It's worth paying that little extra if you like the Australian style wine. This bottle came from Morrisons priced at £7.05.
Another cabernet sauvignon recommendation on the same shelves is a South African - First Cape 2005. This one is not so full-bodied although it still weighs in at 14 per cent alcohol. It leans more towards the French cabernet style with a little spice and minerality. It's a little like pinotage in the aftertaste. This one goes very well with lamb and is well priced at £5.99
