A MINIBUS which helps hundreds of people with mobility problems get out and about has been given a makeover.
The 16-seat vehicle, operated by the Durham City Shopmobility scheme, has been in service since February, but has now been given a new look, with eye-catching livery.
More than 700 people have signed up to use the bus since its launch and the vehicle has now made 900 journeys, helping people do their shopping and enjoy social and leisure activities.
The activities, in turn, help them maintain their independence.
The bus, which was bought after Durham County Council provided £37,500, has space for five wheelchair-users. It is also used for taking groups on day trips around the region.
Councillor Bob Pendlebury, the council's cabinet member for transport, sustainability and tourism at Durham County Council, said: "Being able to get out and about to do shopping or take part in social activities is something many people take for granted.
"The Durham City Shopmobility scheme provides a vital service, enabling people to enjoy their independence, have access to local services and remain active."
The minibus service is available from Tuesday to Saturday, between 10am and 5pm.
