THE farming industry is facing up to another potentially devastating disease outbreak.
Government vets have overnight confirmed an outbreak of blue tongue disease among sheep in Ipswich.
The disease is spread by midgies and there is no known cure.
Scientists are blaming the wet summer and warm temperatures for creating the perfect conditions for the spread of blue tongue.
A quarantine has been put in place but experts say it is almost impossible to prevent the spread of the disease, which is harmless to humans but potentially deadly in sheep flocks.
Farmers leaders will be dreading another disease outbreak as they struggle to come to terms with the recent foot and mouth crisis.
Blue tongue, which is seasonal, has never been found in the UK before.
