CONCERNS have been raised about vandalism attacks on Willington's public toilets.
The situation was discussed at a Willington Town Council meeting earlier this week.
The public toilet block in Albion Place, in Willington's High Street, has been subjected to several vandalism attacks over the past few months.
The locks have previously been broken and replaced and local councillors decided that a preventative measure needs to be taken to stop the problem continuing.
Councillor David Kingston, chairman of community services at Wear Valley District Council said: "Many public toilets in the district have been physically attacked by vandals and we are currently looking at ways to prevent this.
"Time locks have been suggested, as has the installation of security cameras, but both are costly.
"The public toilets in Stanhope had to be completely rebuilt because of vandalism, so we are hoping it doesn't have to come to that."
Anyone who has witnessed an act of vandalism can call Durham Police on 0845-6060365.
