NINETY children from two primary schools have won a £100 cash prize as runners-up in the Green Welly category of the CSV Action Earth awards
Pupils of All Saints RC Primary School and Lanchester EP Primary School, in Lanchester, collected more than 300 bin bags of litter.
They also persuaded volunteers from local shops, the library, the community centre and the cricket club to join in.
They were taking part in the annual Lanchester litter-pick, organised by the Lanchester Partnership.
CSV Action Earth, supported by Morrisons, helps people in England and Wales become volunteers and improve the environment where they work.
Mike Williams, director of CSV Environment said: "Volunteering with CSV Action Earth demonstrates the positive impact that we can all have on the local environment."
