Everyone in this world has a deep fear, even if they won't admit it! Whether it is the fear of spiders or heights, we all have one. But recently I have noticed more and more citizens are scared of the youth of today. With the media abusing stereotypes and portraying young people as a danger to society, its not surprising people are weary of the younger generation within their local community. (And to be fair, programmes like 'The Jeremy Kyle Show' aren't doing us any favours either!) It's about time somebody took notice of all the positive influences and great achievements that young people accomplish daily. The recent A-level results are a clear indication and strong confirmation of how hard working our younger generation actually are.
Personally I am tired of being judged and ridiculed for the way I feel comfortable in dressing, and even extreme cases of people crossing the road to avoid me! I know I'm not a bad person, and I also know that the vast majority of young people are also friendly and caring young adults. It's therefore a shame for the media to pick up on the minority of youths who create havoc and leave a bad reputation for all youths! But as we live in a society who judge instantaneously by the way we dress, the music we listen to and the area we have been brought up in, what can be done to prove that not all young people are a threat to the future of humanity as we know it?! I am not asking for miracles or a drastic change anytime soon as that is unrealistic, but a bit more respect and believe from the older generation would be greatly appreciated. Equally, younger people can also practice basic manors and show courtesy towards others. The key is communication and mutual respect, I mean; is it fair demanding more respect and responsibility when we don't return the favour?
So what can we do about it now? Well, the change has to start from somewhere! The trick is positive influences, set the level of human decency and hopefully people will follow by your lead. Before you know it, the media will easily be able to notice the youth of today and appreciate the contribution we are all capable to provide to our communities and the future yet to come.
