THE man behind plans to create a championship standard golf course in the region says he is delighted with the response so far from the public.
Businessman Tom Howson wants to build the golf course on 150 acres of land outside Yarm, near Stockton.
The site already includes a driving range, which opened in 2001.
The proposal includes the planting of 17,000 broad-leaved trees, scrubland and hedgerows and the provision of nesting boxes to encourage birds and bats.
Information about the measures that would be taken to maintain, improve and manage the natural environment, as well as details of the clubhouse and other facilities, were revealed during a public consultation held at the site.
The course will specifically cater for family membership and incorporate a golfing academy to support young golfing talent.
Leading international golf architect, Jonathan Gaunt, will be commissioned to design it if the project goes ahead.
Project manager Fred Bynoe said: "Well over 90 per cent of the response has been favourable and, where people have had concerns, they have mainly been reassured when they found out more about the proposals. "Nevertheless, we are still urging anyone who has concerns, questions or suggestions to contact us over the next week or so on 01642-762202."
