A DISABLED boy was the victim of a so-called happy slapping incident in a school classroom, it was revealed yesterday.

The 14-year-old, who has cerebral palsy, was attacked by another pupil at Dyke House School, Hartlepool, while two classmates captured the footage on their mobile phones.

The incident came to light when the victim's older brothers were shown the video by youngsters passing round a mobile.

Headteacher Bill Jordon(CORR) said last night that the incident had been dealt with in line with the school's anti-bullying policy.

Mr Jordon told the Northern Echo: "There is no indication of any systematic bullying.

"I have spoken to his parents and we have agreed that it was a one-off incident involving one particular lad and two of his friends, who phone videoed him being pushed about or slapped.

"I have investigated and have dealt with it, and it has been sorted."

The victim's mother, who did not wish to be named, said: "The footage showed my son being slapped around the head.

"My son has cerebral palsy and other problems and he is actually seeing a consultant regularly because he had an operation on his head when he was younger.

"Any blows to the head could cause serious problems."

Mr Jordon said he was made aware of the attack when the boy was reported absent on Tuesday.

He confirmed that the youngster had since returned to school.

Mr Jordon added: "I have taken appropriate disciplinary action. The parent of the victim is happy with that, and the parents of the others have had to accept it."
