Shares in Northern Rock have rallied this afternoon after sharp falls this morning.
At one point the bank lost the shares value it had clawed back yesterday.
The shareholder wobble was caused by rumours that the Halifax was preparing a bargain basement bid that valued the Rock at a mere £1 billion.
A few minutes ago the shares were trading at 2.99p a fall of 2.29 per cent over yesterday.
