SUPPORTERS of a pensioner who is driving solo to the Arctic Circle for a children's cancer charity will run a market stall in aid of his efforts.
Doug Redsell, 73, left Richmond last Tuesday on a 3,000-mile round trip in a 30-year-old 2CV car to raise money for the Candlelighters Trust in memory of his 11-year-old grandson, who died from cancer.
His friends will run a charity stall near Trinity Church in the town's market place on Saturday, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
As well as collecting sponsorship and donations, the team will sell tickets for a raffle, with prizes including a two-night cruise to Amsterdam, a flight in a private plane and a stay at Redworth Hall Hotel, in County Durham.
Candlelighters is based at St James' University Hospital, Leeds, where children who are diagnosed with cancer in Yorkshire are treated.
