RESIDENTS in Hartlepool wanting to improve their posture and problems with joints are invited to yoga classes in the town.

The council's sports development team is behind the Yoga 4 Wellbeing courses, which take place at the Borough Hall, on the Headland, and Throston Grange Community Centre, in Glamorgan Grove.

The next session at Throston Grange will be from 9.30am to 10.45am on Monday.

Enrolment and a taster session for the Borough Hall course will take place from 11.15am to 12.30pm on Wednesday, September 26.

Lorraine Harrison, of Hartlepool Borough Council, said the courses were adaptable to the needs and abilities of individuals.

She said: "Yoga 4 Wellbeing is designed to accommodate those who have limited strength and poor mobility. The sessions can support all abilities and offers alternatives and adaptations to the postures.

"Past participants with joint problems have found the course to be beneficial, and several felt it did help to ease their joint discomfort associated with arthritis and osteoporosis."

The courses are part of the Hartlepool Exercise for Life programme.

It costs £1.90 a week for casual members, £1.65 with an Active Card and £1.30 for concessions.
